Chicco Twala is furious over being subpoenaed.

Sello “Chicco” Twala is breathing fire after Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu told the North Gauteng High Court on Monday that he will subpoena him to testify in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

The veteran music producer told ZiMoja that he does not understand why he needs to testify when it is his son, Longwe Twala, who was in the house the day Senzo Meyiwa was killed.

The former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was gunned down at his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s family home in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014.

According to those present in the house that fateful night, two intruders ambushed them and asked for money and their cellphones.

However, on Monday Mngomezulu read a statement – given by Senzo’s brother, Sifiso Meyiwa – which alleged that Pirates boss Dr Irvin Khoza told him there were no intruders.

“I would like to state that Mr Irvin Khoza told me that Senzo was not shot by robbers. These were the actual words of Mr Irvin Khoza ‘Boy, Senzo was not shot by intruders. No intruders entered the house. Senzo was shot by mistake. There was a fight between Zandi and her boyfriend,’” read the statement.

State prosecutor George Baloyi objected, saying Khoza submitted a statement refuting the claims made by Sifiso. However, Mngomezulu said he would subpoena the Premier Soccer League chairman.

Mngomezulu also said he would subpoena the alleged mastermind, Khumalo, and Longwe’s father. This, he said, after alleging that it was Longwe who killed Meyiwa.

“According to the evidence that I have as the defence, Senzo was shot when he was separating Longwe (Twala) and Zandi (Khumalo) who were fighting we were in.

“When Longwe came to Kelly Khumalo’s house he was drunk and was in possession of a 38 special, a revolver. According to my witnesses, there were three shots that were fired and three people were injured as a result. Senzo was shot dead, Longwe shot himself in the ankle and the last shot was fired on the floor. As a result, Zandi got injured,” said Mngomezulu.

In response to Mngomezulu, an angry Chicco told ZiMoja that he will not be testifying.

“What will the state get from me or Irvin’s testimony? We were not there when Senzo was killed,” Chicco said.

“Dragging my name and Irvin into the Senzo Meyiwa murder case is nothing but an attention-seeking exercise by this fly-by-night advocate Mngomezulu. The man is just marketing himself, not that he wants justice for Senzo. He is making noise about an old issue that was raised by Sifiso a while ago. Mngomezulu is beyond incompetent.”

Chicco further said his gun was not involved in the murder and it was proven by the ballistics experts.

“My gun and Carlos Mncube’s (one of the accused) were taken for ballistics tests, and it was confirmed beyond reasonable doubt by the ballistics experts and Bheki Cele that it was Carlos’ gun that shot and killed Senzo.

“The first time we heard that Longwe shot Senzo accidentally was in 2019, and it was Sifiso Meyiwa who made the allegations that we are seeing the incompetent Mngomezulu making noise about,” he added.
