young, gifted and down to earth!

By: Prudence Kgokong

Nkagare Makhudu was born in Bethani, in the north west province, grew up in Itsoseng near Mahikeng then later moved to Mabopane in Pretoria ( purple city)

He is young, gifted and yet down to earth. His achievements and success do not make him a proud person, his in fact the total opposite.

Makhudu is the founder of Morongwa Foundation, non-profit company which he founded in the midst of covid-19 in May 2020. A vehicle that seeks to drive intergrated community development aimed at improving the welfare and livelihoods of marginalised communities through sustainable partnership. This dynamic individual is also the Executive Director of the Nkagare Makhudu Business Solutions.

He is the former CEO of The President’s Award for youth Empowerment also known as the The Duke of Edinburgh’s international Award for young people.

Makhudu of Morongwa Foundation that partnered with the Hebron Mango Tree Owner Cooperative helped cooperative with overhauling, rebranding and marketing what used to be called the solidarity marketing into the now successful Basadi Farmers and Business Market held monthly in Mabopane. Their partnership is growing from strength to strength, which continues to help smallholder farmers and Township SMMEs to grow.

He has always played an important role within the youth development space having also served as the National Head of Youth Leaderships and Development and Innovation at the Lovelife Trust. He is inspired by young people who take charge of their destiny.

Besides being inspired by working with young people he also has a passions in working with rural communities to uplift and develop them. “Rural Economic Development is like a puzzle and each one of us holds a piece” says Makhudu.

Even though he has travelled the world, rubbed shoulders with the most influential people around the world, he is still as humble as ever. A true “Motho wa batho” ( A people’s person) not proud or arrogant but simple, respectful and down to earth.

Youth of Mzansi needs more role models like Nkagare Makhudu who work hard, follow their dreams and make sure they achieve them without being disturbed by fame and fortune. Our youth needs guidance of true leaders, those who have self- respect and can be respected in return not celebrities that are in today and out tomorrow.
