Sibusiso Mabengwana wants to enlighten the youth and bring back the spark of Kwaito music

Sibusiso Mabengwana professionally known by his stage name as SBU 82 is a kwaito musician and record label owner of 82 records, where there are various artists talented in different genres of music. He was born and bred in Eastern Cape, Ngqamkwa in the Transkei, he currently resides in the township of Barcelona in Benoni, Johannesburg.

Mabengwana said that his love for music started in the year 2000 while he was still in high school doing grade 10, where together with his friends started a kwaito music group. SBU 82’S vision is to enlighten the youth and bring back the spark of Kwaito that he was intrigued by back in 2000. He found his interest in kwaito music in musicians such as brothers of peace, Oskido, Spikiri and Mdu just to name a few, he said.

He further said that his record label only has two people which is himself and DJ Msiyana. The Label was initially started to help to push his son DJ Msiyana and him to create more opportunities for upcoming artists especially females. The record label has not released any songs officially yet as there still working together to make sure it’s a success

Sibusiso said that the music industry is not the same anymore with lots of genres emerging but “I feel like kwaito music is part of our identity sound which helped shape a lot of these new sounds it’s still very much alive inside me” and a lot of other people he is doing this for, and he is also fusing it with other trendy sounds to bring it back to life, he said.
