The latest crime stats reveal that in just six months, 558 children were killed in South Africa. 294 cases of attempted murder are being investigated and 1 895 assault grievous bodily harm cases with children as victims were opened. The Child Protection and Services unit arrested 4 375 perpetrators for crimes committed against women and children and kidnapping has doubled with over 4000 counts reported.
