MANDELA DAY AT REIMOLOTSWE

Urban Fusion Media has teamed up with Atlegang Community Projects, Thembi T Foundation, Goldrush Morula and Mzansi Resorts in helping the needy and less fortunate. On Monday 18 July 2022 Nelson Mandela day we spent more than 67 minutes at Reimolotswe Primary school in winterveld, we were welcomed by the school Principal Mrs Mavis Mphelo, Deputy Principal Mr Moses Letswalo, SGB Chair Person Mrs Bridgete Khoza and staff.

Reimolotswe Primary School learners and their parents attended the event with the community of winterveld for the first time memorable event where they got entertained by good motivational talks from Urban fusion radio presenter Grace “Ellah Gee” Tshabangu, good music from urban fusion radio Deejays Kgothatso “Putsa Ninefive” Mashishi, Boitumelo “Expensive Toy” Madikwe and Johnny “Mster J” Mashigo, and also a special performance by Ellah Gee Dancing Group.

We donated clothes and served hearty meals to the community at large, and as the aim was to serve 6700 people we then proceeded the initiative to Mabopane block EW where more people were served with hearty meals. Those hearty meals were prepared with love by Atlegang Community Prejects Founding Director Idah Rakale, Thembi T Foundation Operations Manager Francina Tlali and Reimolotswe school kitchen staff.

During the event at Reimolotswe Primary School we received information that the school has been running without electricity since 6 June 2022. One of the community members stated that they have been without electricity for 2 months now because Eskom cut down the power with allegations that most houses in the area are not buying electricity and have been using illegal connections for a long time.  “Why should we suffer for the actions of other people while the school is consistently paying electricity?” asked the principal. 

“The matter was escalated to the Ward Councilor several times but no action has been taken, that is why we are taking the law into our own hands by blocking the roads just to get attention from the media and municipal officials” said the Winterveldt resident who is also an assistant staff member at the school. The Winterveldt Mashaba section community and Reimolotswe Primary School principal is crying out for help to the Tshwane Municipality and Eskom to attend to the matter because their life is very difficult without electricity. The school also indicated that they are in need of sanitary pads for the the girl child in their school to ensure that a girl child is retained and in school.
